ITA Airways Chooses Urbe Aero to Train Its Future Pilots
Have you ever dreamed of completing a training programme directly with an airline? Today, that goal is much more achievable. ITA Airways has announced the launch of its new official programme to train the pilots of the future, once again choosing Urbe Aero Flight Academy as its centre of excellence and training partner.
Together, ITA Airways and Urbe Aero have created the only integrated pilot training pathway in Italy capable of supporting students every step of the way: from the initial selection process to the moment they take their seat in the airline’s cockpit and begin operating commercial flights.
The Numbers Behind an Ambitious Project
The air transport industry is growing, and the demand for qualified pilots continues to increase. To meet this need, ITA Airways has set a clear goal: to train approximately 280 new pilots over the next four years, with the first courses scheduled to begin in October 2026.
A proven formula for success? The results speak for themselves: following the previous programme developed through the partnership between the two organisations, 54 former Urbe Aero students are already flying Airbus A320 aircraft for ITA Airways.
How Does the Training Programme Work?
The programme, officially known as the MPL – Multi-Pilot Licence, offers a full immersion in the world of aviation and is divided into three key stages:
Theory: students will begin their academic training directly at the ITA Airways Training Center at Rome Fiumicino Airport.
Flight training: the practical phase will take place at Urbe Aero Flight Academy. Here, future pilots will complete more than 160 hours of practical training, flying one of the youngest and most modern training fleets in Europe, equipped with fully digital instrumentation and supported by state-of-the-art simulators.
Type Rating: once the initial practical phase has been completed, students will return to Fiumicino. Using advanced Airbus A220 and A320 simulators, they will complete their training before officially entering service on commercial flights.
This initiative combines the most advanced training technologies with the operational needs of Italy’s national airline, creating a new generation of young aviation professionals ready to take their careers to new heights.
