Aeroitalia Chooses Urbe Aero Flight Academy to Train Its Future First Officers

Becoming an airline pilot in Italy today offers new and exciting career prospects. Aeroitalia, a rapidly expanding Italian airline, has selected Urbe Aero Flight Academy as its partner school for the selection, training and operational placement of its future First Officers.

The partnership was established to support Aeroitalia’s growth plan – which will see new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft joining its fleet from 2027—by creating a direct, high-level pathway from the flight academy to the cockpit.

A Tangible Opportunity for Aspiring Pilots and Cadets

The strategic agreement is structured around two pathways designed both for candidates wishing to start from scratch and for those who have already begun their professional pilot training:

  • ATPL Mentored Cadet Programme: a comprehensive programme for candidates wishing to undertake ab initio training, supporting students from the initial selection process through to their first hours of operational flying with the airline.
  • APS MCC + Type Rating Candidate Pipeline: a preferential pathway for candidates who have already started or completed their ATPL training, guiding them through to obtaining their Boeing 737 type rating.

Candidates will be jointly selected by Urbe Aero and Aeroitalia Aviation Academy through a targeted process designed to identify the strongest aptitudes and the operational discipline required for an airline career.

Training Excellence Meets Fleet Expansion

Prof. Gaetano Intrieri, CEO of Aeroitalia:

“We chose Urbe Aero because we consider it a centre of excellence. Pilots trained at this academy have always stood out for their technical expertise and professional mindset. For a growing airline such as ours, having access to a pipeline of young talent selected according to rigorous criteria is a strategic asset.”

Prof. Lorenzo Mezzadri, Director General of Urbe Aero Flight Academy:

“It is an honour to have been selected by Aeroitalia. This agreement, alongside those established with other major international organisations, demonstrates the quality of our training and the trust that airlines place in our academy.”
